Role of Deep Skin Treatment Strategies in Eczema and Psoriasis

Dr. Nazia Nousheen 458 Views

Eczema and psoriasis are two of the most prevalent chronic skin conditions that affect millions of individuals worldwide.[1] Eczema also known as atopic dermatitis (AD) and psoriasis are chronic inflammatory skin disorders characterized by impaired skin barrier function, immune dysregulation, and persistent inflammation. In India, the prevalence of AD is increasing, with climatic, socioeconomic, and healthcare-access factors influencing disease presentation and management. AD is known to result from reduced filaggrin and disrupted lipids, which compromise the skin barrier.[2] Skin barrier dysfunction in AD leads to excessive transepidermal water loss (TEWL), increased penetration of irritants, and heightened susceptibility to infections. Similarly, psoriasis is associated with epidermal thickening, altered keratinocyte differentiation, vascular changes, and chronic inflammation, often aggravated by dry skin and seasonal variations. Deep skin treatment strategies focus on restoring barrier integrity, improving hydration, and modulating inflammation. Moisturizers remain the cornerstone of management in both conditions, providing steroid-sparing benefits and enhancing skin repair. Advanced formulations containing 4D hyaluronic acid and polyglutamic acid (PGA) offer synergistic hydration by creating a three-dimensional moisture-retaining network while strengthening the skin barrier and supporting natural moisturizing factors. These approaches help reduce skin roughness, improve hydration, protect against environmental irritants, and support long-term disease control. Optimal clinical outcomes are achieved through treatment strategies that target both immune-mediated inflammation and skin barrier restoration, thereby reducing symptoms, flares, and relapses.
